My First Tournament

I played in a ladies tournament at our golf club on Saturday.  It was a lot like the Game of Thrones finale:  It ran way too long, so hot it felt like everything was burning down around us, and the ending was disappointing.  Needless to say we did not place.

Being mid-May in South Carolina meant that before we could head out we all had to cover ourselves with sunscreen and bug spray like our lives depended on it – which they probably did.  It was so hot, everything I had on was soaking wet before I made it to the tee box.  It couldn’t have been worse in King’s Landing and Winter was long gone.

I drove a cart, which I never do anymore, and at first I was concerned that this would be my biggest challenge.  But never fear – it was golf.  I hit an amazing drive on the first hole!  My second shot went right, but just on the edge of the woods and the fairway.  That’s when the luck ran out – with 17 holes left.

Most of the ladies playing in the tournament were extremely talented, mature players.  Because of that, we ALL got to hit from the forward tees.  I was very excited because I’d already been contemplating asking the internet where I could get a fake ID that said I was 62.  My teammates were amazing so I didn’t get to contribute very much, but I had a couple of holes where my handicap of 2 strokes per hole helped us out.  I was feeling pretty good until I realized one of my teammates was 83 …. and she was out driving, chipping and putting me.  🤦🏻‍♀️

It may be a bit before my next post.  Both my body and my pride need time to heal.

I played golf for a minute in my late 20's / early 30's. I'm much less successful at it now, but it sure makes life entertaining....
